With technology advancing at a more rapid pace than ever before, this generation is exposed to an increasing amount of jobs involving computers. There are many jobs that are very specific and those who are unheard of, but the most common ones are, computer science, software engineering, and information technology. In computer science, one primarily uses algorithms to solve problems that a computer might have, as well as designing computers. These problems usually consist of bettering the way computers work and interact, such as with the use of databases for storing information and the transfer of data to other computers. They do this by designing and creating software to be able to solve these problems through the means of coding and problem solving. Jobs associated with this major include, computer hardware engineer, computer systems analyst, and web designer. These jobs are ideal as they focus on the building of computers, as well as creation and maintenance of information. In software engineering, you will be the one that develops, designs, applies maintenance on, and tests reliable software systems. They usually work with businesses, government agencies, and non-profit organizations to perform tasks in the software development process, which usually varies from a specialized field to everything in the process. Their jobs are usually office jobs but can vary to at home jobs as all they really need is a working computer in front of them. Information technology major is one that focuses on the storage, retrieval, transitions, and manipulation of information in a computer. The people who do this for a living generally work for companies and are in direct access of all the company’s secure information. Their job to secure the information so it doesn’t become public access or leak, as well as improving the storage of the information and making it easier to be distributed and received. I am currently a software engineering major and would like to continue that path. After accessing all of the different fields, the most appealing to me is still software engineering as I am interested in making applications on both phones, watches, and computers and I think that software engineering will be able to best assist me on the path to that career.
